BRICS summit in New Delhi calls for reform of IMF, World Bank and WTO
Participants in the BRICS summit in New Delhi, India, adopted a 140-point joint statement on September 12 calling for reforms to the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The document provides for developing countries to have greater influence over decision-making in these institutions, according to an OilPrice report published by Eurasianet.
Criticism of trade restrictions
The statement refers to the spread of trade restrictions that, in the view of BRICS participants, do not comply with WTO rules. Among such measures, the document lists indiscriminate tariff increases, non-tariff restrictions and protectionism presented as environmental goals.
The declaration does not directly mention either the United States or President Donald Trump. At the same time, Eurasianet notes that certain provisions of the document indirectly criticize the policies of the Trump administration. The outlet also writes that India, which hosted the summit, restrained initiatives aimed at de-dollarizing the global economy.
BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation include China, India, Iran and the Russian Federation, an aggressor state. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have the status of BRICS partner countries.

Statements on conflicts and cooperation
Summit participants called on all sides to exercise maximum restraint in the war in the Persian Gulf, which, according to the outlet, involves the United States, Israel and Iran. The joint statement also does not mention the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, speaking at the expanded session, called BRICS an open platform for practical cooperation that complements the multilateral system centered around the UN. He stated that the destruction of the international security architecture and protracted conflicts increase the risks of a new arms race and strategic miscalculations.
Tokayev also met with the US ambassador to India and the Trump administration's special representative for Central Asian states, Sergio Gor. According to the Kazakh side, the president of Kazakhstan expects more active progress in implementing bilateral agreements with the United States and the repeal of the Jackson-Vanik amendment's application to Kazakhstan.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev did not travel to the summit in New Delhi, instead making a state visit to South Korea. Uzbekistan was represented at the BRICS meeting by a deputy prime minister.
