In Russia, a former Red Cross employee had his sentence increased to 14 years in a treason case
The Khabarovsk Regional Court in Russia sentenced 46-year-old Alexei Detichev, a former deputy head of the regional Red Cross branch, to 14 years in a strict-regime penal colony on charges of treason.
This is a retrial of the case. In May 2025, Detichev was sentenced to 4.5 years in a general-regime penal colony under a charge of covert collaboration with a foreign state. Subsequently, the charges were reclassified as treason, after which the case was sent for a new trial.
According to the Russian investigation, in 2023, the man allegedly contacted a representative of an “unfriendly state to Russia” and agreed to pass on information that, according to the prosecution, could have been used against the security of the Russian Federation, in exchange for political asylum in the United Kingdom.
Previous reports from the Russian court also claimed that Detichev allegedly proposed conducting “anti-Russian propaganda” among young people, using his contacts at educational institutions in the Khabarovsk Krai. In addition, he was charged with gathering information about the products of one of the region’s defense enterprises.
The defendant himself has not admitted guilt.
This was reported by Mediazona, citing the press service of the Khabarovsk Krai courts.
As a reminder, a court in Moscow sentenced columnist and journalist Arkady Babchenko in absentia to one and a half years in a general-regime penal colony. The case was brought on charges of failing to fulfill the obligations of a so-called “foreign agent.”
In Russia, three captured “Azov” fighters were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
A Moscow court sentenced the well-known Russian singer Monetochka (real name: Elizaveta Girdimova) in absentia to one year in a general-regime penal colony.
