Two Ukrainians are to stand trial in Romania on charges of plotting a terrorist attack in Bucharest

In Romania, charges have been officially filed against two Ukrainian citizens in connection with a case involving the planning of a terrorist attack in the country’s capital.

According to the Romanian anti-terrorism agency DIICOT, two men aged 23 and 24 arrived in Romania in the fall of 2022. The very next day after their arrival, they allegedly attempted to carry out a dangerous provocation using “Nova Poshta” packages in Bucharest.

This was reported by DIICOT\Balkan Insight.

The investigation established that the suspects left two packages containing homemade explosive devices at a branch of an international logistics company.

As Balkan Insight journalists later discovered, the location was a branch of the Ukrainian “Nova Poshta” in Bucharest. Romanian intelligence suggested that Russian special services might have been behind the detainees’ actions, attempting to destabilize the situation. The scale of the threat was critical.

“The courier company’s office is located on the first floor of a seven-story apartment building in a central district of the Romanian capital, which could have caused significant damage and endangered people’s lives, DIICOT emphasized.

Fortunately, the dangerous devices were identified in time. Specialists defused the explosives before they could detonate or be sent further. Currently, the accused are under investigation, and law enforcement officials continue to examine all circumstances and potential masterminds behind this operation.
