Ukrainians will stand trial in Romania for sending Russian explosive packages
On April 6, the Romanian Prosecutor’s Office formally charged two Ukrainian citizens, aged 23 and 24, with attempted sabotage and complicity in an operation carried out by Russian intelligence services.
This was reported by Balkan Insight.
According to the investigation, in October, the suspects attempted to send two packages containing incendiary devices via a Nova Poshta branch in Bucharest. The shipping location was on the first floor of a seven-story residential building in a densely populated area of the city, posing a real threat of fire and to the country’s national security.
The suspects have been in custody since October 2025 following their arrest in cooperation with Polish law enforcement, which simultaneously arrested six other individuals. Investigators from the DIICOT consider these actions part of a broader coordination effort by the Russian Federation to destabilize the situation in Europe. If found guilty, the defendants face up to 10 years in prison. The trial is proceeding amid heightened security measures in EU countries due to hybrid threats.
Russia is also behind the explosive packages sent from Lithuania to European countries.
As a reminder, the fire at a DHL warehouse in the British suburb of Minworth, which occurred on July 22, may have been caused by an incendiary device planted on the plane by Russian spies. This possibility is being investigated by the counterterrorism police.
