In Romania, the government could lose seven ministers as the political crisis intensifies

The Social Democratic Party of Romania (PSD), the largest party in the ruling coalition, has finalized a plan for its representatives to withdraw from Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan’s government. Seven ministers are expected to step down as early as April 23.

This was reported by Digi24.

The PSD leadership unanimously decided that seven ministers from the party will leave the government on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Social Democrats are awaiting a statement from President Nicușor Dan on Wednesday evening, following consultations at Cotroceni Palace. If these consultations yield no results, all PSD ministers will submit their resignations on Thursday morning, before the government meeting, according to party sources.

Before resigning, they will transfer their powers to state secretaries so as not to disrupt government operations.

The PSD government members who will resign are: Marian Neacu – Deputy Prime Minister, Alexandru Rogobete – Minister of Health, Ciprian Șerban – Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Florin-Ionuț Barbu – Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Bogdan Ivan – Minister of Energy, Radu Marinescu – Minister of Justice, Petre Florin-Manole – Minister of Labor and Social Solidarity.

Thus, state secretaries from the ministries headed by the PSD will participate in Thursday’s government meeting.

After President Nicușor Dan signs the resignation letters, the PSD will prepare a motion of no confidence to oust the Bolojan government, after which other PSD representatives in the state apparatus will also resign: state secretaries, prefects, subprefects, and others. At the time of the vote on the no-confidence motion, the only person remaining in office from the party will be Chamber of Deputies Speaker Sorin Grindeanu. According to information obtained by Digi24, he is also prepared to resign if the no-confidence motion is not passed and the entire party moves into opposition.
