In Romania, law enforcement authorities have uncovered an organized criminal group which, according to the investigation, printed approximately 2 million euros in counterfeit banknotes and distributed them primarily in Bulgaria.

The counterfeit 50-, 100-, and 200-euro notes were manufactured in an underground workshop in the village of Burla near Suceava. During a raid on March 24, law enforcement officers detained three Romanian citizens and one Italian citizen, seizing all printing equipment.

According to the investigation, the group operated from October 2025 to March 2026 in Romania and Bulgaria. They face charges under several articles: forming an organized criminal group, counterfeiting money, putting it into circulation, and possessing tools for manufacturing counterfeit securities.
A motion for their arrest as a preventive measure is currently being prepared.
As a reminder, the Economic Security Bureau (ESB) in Kyiv has completed a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings regarding the sale of counterfeit U.S. dollars and has referred the charges to court.
