Two trains collided on the Genoa–Milan line in Italy

On the morning of April 20, at a station in Pavia, south of Milan, a passenger train collided with a stationary freight train. The passenger train was departing the station at a speed of about 30 km/h, but due to the long braking distance, the train operator was unable to avoid the collision.

This was reported by ANSA.

No passengers or railway personnel were injured in the incident. Passengers were transferred to another train, which took them to their destination. The accident caused a temporary suspension of service on the strategic line between Milan and Genoa. Train service was fully restored by 11:30 a.m. Experts are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident to determine why the freight train was on the passenger track. Technical services are inspecting the station’s signaling systems.

The incident did not affect international service, but local trains experienced delays in the morning. Police and railway officials are on site to gather all necessary evidence. The situation is under the control of Italy’s transport authority.

On January 20, near the town of Gelida outside Barcelona, a commuter train derailed due to the collapse of a retaining wall on the tracks, marking the second major accident in Spain in a week.

On January 18, southern Spain saw the worst train accident in the last 13 years. The death toll continues to rise, and the injured remain in intensive care.
