Spain has trained more than 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers as part of the EU mission
More than 9,000 Ukrainian service members have successfully completed training in Spain as part of the European training mission EUMAM Ukraine. Since the program’s launch in November 2022, the Spanish side has organized more than 230 specialized training modules across 40 different military specialties.
The training takes place at facilities throughout the country and involves units of the Spanish Armed Forces and the Civil Guard.
Since the beginning of 2026, the nature of the training has undergone significant changes, becoming much more specialized and high-tech, while traditional basic courses for recruits have taken a back seat. In particular, Spanish instructors have, for the first time, introduced programs for Ukrainians in advanced military topography, military police unit training, and the operation of heavy armored recovery and evacuation vehicles.
At the same time, intensive training for crews and technical personnel to maintain Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks is underway at Spanish training ranges. Special attention is also being paid to hands-on training with HAWK air defense missile systems, operating M113 tracked armored personnel carriers, and detailed work with modern geospatial data for frontline needs.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on its Telegram channel.
We previously reported that Spain is preparing a new aid package for Ukraine that will include tanks.
We also note that Spain and other Western allies have sent Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine.
