A shooting has occurred at a mosque in San Diego; there are fatalities – AP
On May 18, a shooting occurred at the Islamic Center of San Diego, the largest mosque in the county, resulting in fatalities. The incident also resulted in the deaths of the attackers. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident and the motives behind the shooting. The scene is under heavy police security.

San Diego Police Chief Scott Wall said at a press conference that two suspects, believed to be teenagers, killed three men, including a security guard at the religious institution. Law enforcement officials have classified the case as a hate crime.
After the shooting at the mosque, the attackers attempted to flee. The police chief noted that when officers arrived at the scene, they also received reports of a shooting several blocks away—there, the assailants opened fire on a landscape designer, but the man was not injured. Later, both teenage suspects were found dead in a car that had stopped in the middle of the road nearby. According to police, they committed suicide.
According to CNN, one of the suspects in the San Diego mosque shooting took a firearm from his parents’ home and left a suicide note containing text about racial pride. Additionally, officials stated that hate speech was written on one of the weapons used during the attack.
It is noted that the Islamic Center is located in a neighborhood with residential buildings, shopping centers, as well as restaurants and markets serving Middle Eastern cuisine. Its campus includes the Al-Rashid School, where Arabic, Islamic studies, and the Quran are taught. Aerial footage showed more than a dozen students from the school, holding hands, being evacuated from the center’s parking lot, which was surrounded by dozens of police cars.
