Students in Serbia submit candidate list for parliamentary elections
In Belgrade, Serbia, thousands of supporters of the opposition movement “Student List” marched to the Republican Electoral Commission on September 14 to register a list of candidates for early parliamentary elections. The vote is scheduled for October 25.
March to the electoral commission
Participants gathered near the rectorate of the University of Belgrade and then headed to the electoral commission to submit the list “Student List — Students Win”. The movement itself called the action the “Victors’ March”.
Participants in the march carried a model of the Monument of Victory, a well-known landmark and symbol of Belgrade. Over the weekend, residents of Serbian cities and towns stood in line to sign in support of the “Student List”; some waited for several hours, Balkan Insight reports.

Election context
The “Student List” emerged from a long-running student protest movement that arose after the railway station disaster in Novi Sad in November 2024. Balkan Insight describes it as the main opposition rival to President Aleksandar Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party.
Vučić told Pink TV that he will leave the presidency on September 27 and intends to campaign for the post of prime minister. “On September 27, I will resign as president. That evening, I will address the nation and thank the people for their support,” he said.
