Four people charged with murder of newborn girl in Sheffield

Four people have been charged with the murder of a newborn girl in Sheffield, UK. A forensic examination established that the cause of death was stab wounds.

Charges against five individuals

As The Guardian reports, 20-year-old Andrea Skopová, 19-year-old Peter Horvat, 38-year-old Peter Horvat and 37-year-old Nina Horvatová have been charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice.

The latter charge concerns actions which, according to the case details, were aimed at concealing the murder of the infant. Separately, a 15-year-old girl, whose name has not been disclosed due to her age, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Police actions

Police were called to the Wincobank area of Sheffield on Sunday morning following a report of concerns for an infant's safety. Officers searched a property on Holywell Heights and found the child there.

All five defendants are in custody and are due to appear before Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. Two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were arrested on suspicion of murder, remain on bail.
