In Sweden, the left bloc leads the right by three seats
In Sweden, after 95% of the parliamentary election results were announced, the left bloc of opposition Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson holds a three-seat advantage over the right-wing alliance of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. According to Politico Europe, Sweden’s election authority projected 176 seats in the 349-seat parliament for Andersson’s bloc, while Kristersson’s alliance could receive 173.
Final results expected on Wednesday
As of 9:00 a.m. Monday, results had been announced at 6,273 of 6,626 polling stations. According to calculations by Swedish public broadcaster SVT, the two blocs were separated by about 28,000 votes, while another approximately 200,000 ballots were expected to be counted on Wednesday.
The final outcome of Sunday’s vote may remain unknown until Wednesday. Both contenders for the post of head of government must hold talks with leaders of other parties in an effort to form a governing parliamentary majority. The new parliament’s vote on the prime minister will likely take place no earlier than in two weeks.

Talks on forming a government
For the past four years, Kristersson has led the government with parliamentary support from the Sweden Democrats, although the party had no formal role in the coalition. His right-wing alliance brings together four parties, including the Sweden Democrats.
According to the publication, Kristersson may try to persuade the small liberal Centre Party to leave Andersson’s bloc and join his side. Andersson said that the votes counted indicate a close race, but if the lead is retained, Sweden will have a new government. Kristersson acknowledged that forming a cabinet would be difficult, but stressed that he is in no hurry.
