Man charged in Israel with murder of 7-year-old child in Beit Shemesh

In Israel, prosecutors have charged 26-year-old Liel Ifergan with the intentional murder under aggravated circumstances of a 7-year-old child named Hillel Mordechai Dadon, as well as the attempted murder of another 4-year-old child, one of Dadon’s cousins. The indictment was filed with the Jerusalem District Court, The Jerusalem Post reports.

Case circumstances

According to the prosecution, on August 17, the children were playing in an inflatable pool in the yard of a family home. Dadon had come to visit his cousin that day. At around 4:38 p.m., Ifergan allegedly ran out of the adjacent residential unit where he lived carrying a knife, entered the yard and approached the pool.

Prosecutors say he stabbed Dadon once in the chest and the other child in the neck, intending to kill both of them. Afterward, according to the indictment, the defendant returned to his residence and washed the blood off the knife.

Injuries and charges

According to the case materials, the chest wound damaged Dadon’s left lung and the membrane surrounding his heart, causing injuries from which the child died. The other child suffered a neck wound and active bleeding, underwent surgery, was sedated and placed on mechanical ventilation, and remained in hospital for three days.

Ifergan is also charged with attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm under aggravated circumstances. The charge of murder under aggravated circumstances is based on a provision of Israeli law concerning the intentional killing of a child under the age of 14. Prosecutors are requesting that the defendant remain in custody until the criminal proceedings are completed.

The deceased child’s father, Amos Dadon, said after the indictment was filed that the family hopes for swift justice and is trying to stay strong for the sake of the other children in the family.
