China ranked second in assessment of space infrastructure
China ranked second after the United States in an assessment of space infrastructure among 48 economies. The report was presented in Beijing during the 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services, ECNS reports.
Top 10 leaders
The United States took first place in the ranking. The top 10 also included China, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, India, Italy and the Netherlands.
The assessment covered life-support, transport, communications and energy systems. Separately, the authors analyzed legislation, regulatory frameworks and dispute-resolution mechanisms.

Outlook through 2040
The report classified the United States and China as leaders in terms of the development of physical infrastructure. The document's authors predict that by 2035, human activity in space will mainly be concentrated in cislunar space.
After 2040, according to the researchers' forecast, exploration of the space between Earth and Mars may become a reality. The report was jointly prepared by research institutions affiliated with Peking University, Zhejiang International Studies University, Tsinghua University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.
