Swedish law enforcement authorities have detained two individuals—a Chinese citizen and a Malaysian citizen—who are suspected of espionage. The investigation is ongoing, and the details of the case have not been officially disclosed.
A 35-year-old Chinese national and a 22-year-old Malaysian national were detained on Wednesday, July 2.
The allegations involve “serious illegal intelligence activities against Sweden,” said Gabriel Wernstedt, a spokesperson for the Swedish Security Service (SÄPO).
According to the arrest warrant, the illegal activities took place between June 26 and July 1. The exact nature of the suspects’ activities has not been specified.
