Singapore helps True Fitness and True Yoga workers find jobs

In Singapore, the non-profit Singapore Fitness Alliance is helping employees and freelancers of True Fitness and True Yoga find new jobs after the sudden closure of the facilities. As of September 13, about 230 employees and independent professionals from True Group had approached the organization, Channel NewsAsia reports.

Employment assistance

The Singapore Fitness Alliance is implementing the initiative jointly with the National Instructors & Coaches Association (NICA) and e2i, the employment and employability institute of Singapore’s National Trades Union Congress. NICA was established by the National Trades Union Congress in 2019.

Singapore Fitness Alliance President and co-founder Sean Tan said that the organization would not join efforts to recover unpaid salaries or commissions for workers. According to the alliance’s website, its members include most of Singapore’s gyms, studios and specialized fitness facilities.

Closure of True Group centres

True Group operates ten fitness centres in Singapore under the True Fitness, TFX and Yoga Edition brands. Its Hong Kong-listed parent company, Kontafarma China Holdings, said in a stock exchange filing that the directors of True Fitness and True Yoga in Singapore were unable to continue operations due to the companies’ liabilities.

The company cited as unprecedented challenges competition from specialized gyms, training facilities in condominiums and private residences, as well as the spread of digital training formats. The fitness centres are closing as part of a liquidation process; insolvency specialists have been preliminarily appointed.
