Air quality in Singapore’s central region improves to moderate
Air quality in Singapore’s central region returned to a moderate level on the evening of September 10: the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) stood at 100 at 22:00. Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA).
PSI index fluctuations
Late on September 9, the reading in the central region moved into the range considered unhealthy: at 23:00, the PSI reached 102. At 6:00 on September 10, it rose to 104 and fluctuated slightly throughout the day. At 21:00, the index stood at 102, before falling to 100 an hour later.
In Singapore’s other regions, air quality remained within the moderate range throughout the day. Under the NEA scale, PSI values from 101 to 200 are classified as unhealthy, from 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, and above 300 as hazardous.

Haze risk remains
In its daily haze advisory, the NEA said that moderate to dense smoke plumes from fires continued to be detected over southern Sumatra and Kalimantan. Smoke from southern Sumatra was observed moving towards Singapore.
Singapore experienced rainfall on September 10, while precipitation was also forecast in central and northern Sumatra in the coming days. At the same time, dry conditions will persist in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra, according to the agency’s assessment. If fires continue amid prevailing southeasterly or southerly winds, haze is possible in Singapore.
The NEA forecast that over the 24 hours beginning at 18:00, the PSI in Singapore would range from high moderate to low unhealthy levels. On September 4, the PSI in the central region entered the unhealthy range for the first time since 2023 and reached 123; the moderate level was restored at 21:00 on September 5.
