A bloody tragedy has shaken the American town of Shreveport, Louisiana, where an armed man opened fire in two separate private homes. 

The Associated Press reports on this.

Eight children were killed in the attack, and ten other people were injured to varying degrees.

According to local police, the ages of the children killed range from 1 to 14 years old. A law enforcement spokesperson confirmed that the victims include immediate relatives of the shooter, adding an even more horrific dimension to the tragedy.

The cause of the mass killing was a “domestic dispute” that escalated into uncontrolled aggression involving the use of firearms. 

The perpetrator attempted to flee the scene in a stolen car, but was shot and killed by police during the pursuit.

The attacker’s identity has not yet been officially released, but law enforcement officials confirmed that he was an adult male. Investigators are determining how the perpetrator gained access to the weapon and whether there were any underlying factors that led to this outbreak of violence.

According to The Associated Press, this incident marks the deadliest shooting in the country since the beginning of the year. 

The last tragedy of a similar scale occurred in January 2024 in a Chicago suburb, where eight people were also killed.
