Armenia and the United States have signed a Strategic Partnership Charter

Armenia and the United States have signed a comprehensive charter on strategic partnership

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed a Charter on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in Yerevan. This step elevates diplomatic and defense relations between the two countries to an unprecedented level. The U.S. official visited the Armenian capital on a brief official stopover en route from India, and the signing ceremony itself took place at Zvartnots Airport on the eve of Armenia’s crucial parliamentary elections, scheduled for June 7.

In addition to the main charter, the heads of the foreign ministries concluded two important economic agreements:

  • They initialed a framework agreement on strategic cooperation within the framework of the large-scale logistics project “Trump’s Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP). This initiative involves launching a multimodal transit corridor through the southern regions of Armenia, which is intended to reliably connect the main territory of Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave and integrate into the Trans-Caspian trade route under the management of a joint venture with a majority stake held by the United States.

  • A Framework Memorandum was signed to ensure strategic supplies in the extraction and processing of critical minerals and rare earth elements.

Assessing the results of the meeting, Ararat Mirzoyan stated that the comprehensive relations between Armenia and the U.S. are now stronger than ever before, and the signed documents open up tremendous new practical opportunities for the republic. For his part, Marco Rubio emphasized that the TRIPP project will be a key driver for establishing long-term peace and economic prosperity throughout the South Caucasus region. Against the backdrop of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s team’s openly pro-Western course, this meeting has already drawn sharp criticism and threats of economic sanctions from official Moscow.
