The U.S. Navy has resumed escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. Navy has resumed escorting commercial vessels as they pass through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing official representatives of the U.S. Navy.

The first vessel to pass through the strait off the coast of Oman under the protection of U.S. warships was a Greek tanker carrying two million barrels of crude oil. The vessel had been stranded in the Persian Gulf since early March and is currently en route to India.

This mission effectively resumes Operation Project Freedom, aimed at ensuring the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The United States had already launched this initiative on May 4, but suspended it after just 36 hours due to dissatisfaction and objections from Saudi Arabia.

According to statements by U.S. Navy representatives, in the coming days, U.S. military ships will ensure safe passage for about ten more civilian vessels, including oil tankers and container ships, that are planning to transit the Strait of Hormuz.
