In the U.S., an unknown man fired shots at Trump during a dinner for journalists; he was arrested

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that law enforcement officials had apprehended the shooter following a shooting incident that occurred during the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, which he attended.

Trump posted this on the social media platform Truth Social.

According to the president, after hearing gunshots, Secret Service agents quickly evacuated him and First Lady Melania Trump from the scene.

“Quite an eventful evening in Washington… The Secret Service and law enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and boldly. The shooter has been apprehended,” Trump said.

The president noted that he was prepared to continue the event, but the final decision on this matter rests with law enforcement.

“Law enforcement asked us to leave the building in accordance with protocol, which we will do immediately... The First Lady, the Vice President, and all members of the Cabinet are safe and sound,” he added.

Trump also announced that he would address the press following the incident.

“I will hold a press conference in 30 minutes in the White House briefing room...,” the president said.

The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump canceled the American delegation’s visit to Pakistan, where talks with Iran were to take place.

Recall that Washington and Tehran are returning to dialogue in Islamabad following the first attempt at a settlement, which concluded on April 12 without significant results.

Prior to this, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran had repeatedly violated the ceasefire since its implementation between Washington and Tehran. According to Trump, there have been numerous incidents that cast doubt on Iran’s compliance with the ceasefire agreements.

On the eve of a possible resumption of direct talks between the U.S. and Iran in Pakistan, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker publicly called on President Donald Trump to continue strikes against Tehran.
