The US Federal Aviation Administration on September 21 restricted flights at busy airports in New York, Philadelphia and Boston after a fiber-optic cable was accidentally damaged at a construction site in New Jersey. The Hindu reports this.

Departure restrictions were introduced at John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in New York, as well as at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.

Damage to backup line
Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Brian Bedford told reporters that a construction crew in New Jersey accidentally cut a backup fiber-optic line. According to him, this resulted in a significant reduction in the number of flights.
The restrictions were introduced during the arrival in New York of 130 world leaders and dozens of ministers for the annual high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly.
