In the U.S., there are calls to impeach Hegset over the war with Iran

In the United States, a Democratic member of the House of Representatives is calling for the impeachment of Defense Secretary Pete Hagset over his actions in the war against Iran.

This is reported by Axios

According to the report, Arizona Congresswoman Yasmin Ansari plans to introduce a draft resolution next week. She says the grounds for impeachment are “repeated violations of his oath and duty to the Constitution.”

“Hegset’s reckless endangerment of American service members and repeated war crimes… constitute grounds for impeachment and removal from office,” she stated.

In addition, Ansari called on the U.S. government to invoke the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove President Donald Trump, criticizing his statements regarding the war.

“The 25th Amendment exists for a reason; the Cabinet must invoke it. At stake are the fate of American troops, the Iranian people, and the very foundations of our global system,” she added.

At the same time, analysts note that the chances of impeachment are minimal. This would require the support of two-thirds of the Senate, while both chambers of Congress are controlled by Republicans. It is also unlikely that a government composed of officials loyal to Trump would support invoking the 25th Amendment.

This is not the first initiative by Democrats to impeach the Pentagon chief amid the escalating situation surrounding Iran.

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset stated during a briefing that U.S. forces had achieved significant successes as part of Operation “Epic Fury” against Iran and announced new waves of strikes.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagset has shifted his approach to military operations, moving away from traditional rhetoric of defense and security and focusing on retaliation.
