Six people were arrested in the U.S. for damaging the Mirror Pond
Six people were arrested in Washington, and seven others were charged in connection with the damage to the Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial, according to U.S. President Donald Trump. The site, which was recently restored as part of his administration’s initiative, has once again become the focus of political attention. Trump described the incident as damage to the city’s newly renovated infrastructure.
Trump noted that this refers to one of the beautification projects near the Lincoln Memorial, which has been actively renovated in recent months. “Six people have been arrested, and seven others are being held legally accountable for the damage they caused to our now-beautiful Reflecting Pool,” he said.
According to Trump, the damage affected the pond’s facade, the lawn surrounding it, and a small section of the bottom. He emphasized that the site held symbolic significance in the lead-up to the celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary.
Initially, restoration costs were estimated at approximately $1.5 million; however, according to U.S. officials, the actual costs rose to nearly $15 million, which had previously sparked debate over the effective use of funds. He wrote about this on the social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday.
During the G7 summit, U.S. President Donald Trump was extremely impressed and enthusiastic about Ukraine’s recent campaign of long-range strikes against targets deep within Russian territory, and he also agreed to tighten sanctions against the Russian energy sector.
