A suspect in the planning of terrorist attacks has been arrested in Stockholm
The Stockholm District Court has ordered the arrest of a 35-year-old man suspected of planning a terrorist crime and participating in a terrorist organization.
This was reported by SVT. According to the investigation, the suspect was active in the regions of Västra Götaland and Skåne in late March 2026, and his involvement in the criminal organization was documented until April 10.
National Security Prosecutor Carl Mellberg is currently refraining from commenting on the nature of the organization or the suspect’s specific objectives. It is known that the detainee had previously been denied a residence permit in Sweden on two occasions, and he himself claimed that he had previously lived in Belgium.
In addition, the Security Service reported the arrest of another individual in the Halmstad area on similar charges. Law enforcement officials currently believe that these two cases are not connected. The tightening of security measures in Sweden comes amid general tensions in Europe and recent threats from Russia against the Baltic states and Finland over alleged assistance to Ukraine in drone attacks.
Meanwhile, Austrian domestic intelligence uncovered a weapons cache in Vienna that may be linked to the terrorist group Hamas and intended for use in “potential terrorist attacks in Europe.” The likely targets of these attacks were Israeli or Jewish institutions in Europe.
The German Ministry of the Interior banned the Islamic Center in Hamburg (IZH) and its branches, calling it an “extremist Islamist organization pursuing unconstitutional goals.”
