Court told ferry captain Mustafa Oz bought Honduran licence for $3,500
A police representative told a court that Mustafa Oz, the captain of the ferry that sank off the coast of Kyrenia, bought a Honduran captain’s licence for $3,500. Cyprus Mail reports.

On Thursday, Oz appeared before the Kyrenia District Court for the second time. According to the police representative, during questioning Oz said that he had initially obtained a licence in Turkey.
The police representative also stated that the Turkish licence had ceased to be valid after Oz had not worked as a ship captain for ten years.

Licence and route
When Oz decided to return to work, he, according to the police version, contacted “some people in Greece”. Using the number of his old Turkish licence, he obtained a Honduran licence after paying $3,500.
After that, according to the police representative, Oz received an accompanying document from the Turkish Cypriot authorities and began working on the route between Kyrenia and the Turkish port of Tasucu.
Document verification
Cyprus Mail contacted the General Directorate of Merchant Marine of the Republic of Honduras to verify the authenticity of the licence. At the time of publication, no response had been received from the agency.
