NB8 representatives discuss evacuations and mental health in Tallinn
A meeting of directors of consular departments from the foreign ministries of the Nordic and Baltic countries in the NB8 format took place in Tallinn, Estonia, on September 10. Participants discussed responses to crisis situations, the evacuation of citizens from affected areas, and support for employees of diplomatic missions.
Evacuation experience
As LSM English reports, the meeting participants exchanged experience regarding the crisis in the Middle East in March this year and the evacuation of citizens from areas affected by the crisis.
The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that representatives of the countries also discussed future cooperation in detail. It is intended to facilitate more prompt assistance to citizens and more efficient use of the resources available to each country.

Support for employees
Mechanisms for supporting the well-being of consular employees and local staff of diplomatic missions involved in work during crises were a separate topic. Particular attention was paid to mental health and the early identification of signs of burnout.
Last year, coordination meetings of representatives of the consular services of the NB8 countries were held in Vilnius, Lithuania.
