Presidents of Iran and Russia call on BRICS to deepen trade in New Delhi, India
At the BRICS business forum in New Delhi, India, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin, of the aggressor state, called on the bloc’s countries to deepen trade and economic ties and criticized Western sanctions. This was reported by CNBC Top News.
Settlements in national currencies
Pezeshkian stated that BRICS should create conditions under which no country can hinder another state’s legitimate trade through monopolizing a financial instrument or technology. He also called for expanding the use of national currencies in mutual trade among member states.
The Iranian president said that pressure on his country had entered a “dangerous phase” — from sanctions to military aggression by the United States and Israel. According to him, the consequences of the war against Tehran extend beyond Iran and affect regional and global stability.
Pezeshkian also described food and energy security as fundamental components of economic security. He added that Iran, which has significant energy reserves, is ready to be a strategic partner.

Putin’s statements on sanctions
Putin, whose country is under Western sanctions because of its war against Ukraine, said that more than 30,000 sanctions had been imposed against Russia. He claims this is twice the number of sanctions imposed against all other countries in the world combined.
Putin also said that states facing industrial decline and budget deficits are attempting to preserve competitive advantages through sanctions against Russia and Iran. He claimed that over the past five years, BRICS countries accounted for more than 40% of global GDP growth, while the share of G7 countries was 29%.
The Russian president called BRICS a sustainable platform for global growth and stated Moscow’s interest in initiatives in tourism, trade, and private investment with countries of the Global South.
