Businessman dies in Thailand after penis enlargement procedure
A 43-year-old Nigerian-British businessman and influencer, Igo Ubiribo, died in Bangkok, Thailand, after a cosmetic penis enlargement procedure. British coroner Jean Harkin concluded that the cause of death was a pulmonary embolism caused by the procedure, MyJoyOnline reports.
Deterioration after the procedure
According to evidence reviewed at a hearing at the West London Coroner’s Court, Ubiribo was injected with 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine into his penis at an unnamed clinic in Thailand. He was vacationing in Bangkok with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen.
After the procedure, the couple went for a massage at the Marriott hotel. There, Ubiribo complained of chest pain and fainted twice. He was taken by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital, where he was initially able to answer medical staff’s questions.

Allen told doctors that her husband had recently received filler injections. Medical staff suspected a pulmonary embolism and recommended a CT scan, but Ubiribo lost consciousness before the examination. He was transferred to the intensive care unit, where staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for more than 100 minutes. He died in the early morning of March 6.
Expert findings
During an autopsy in the United Kingdom, cellular material compatible with the hyaluronic acid used for the filler was found in Ubiribo’s lungs. Pathologist John du Parc told the hearing that this material matched the substance used during the cosmetic procedure and was also consistent with the findings of the autopsy in Thailand.
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are used as a non-surgical method to increase penis girth. The report notes that medical professionals warn of potentially serious complications associated with injectable fillers.
