Taiwan’s semiconductor industry job openings rise by more than 20%

In Taiwan, the semiconductor industry had an average of 47,000 job openings per month this year — more than 20% higher than a year earlier. The share of positions open to candidates with any specialization also increased by 2–3 percentage points, the Taipei Times reported, citing a report by job-search platform 104 Job Bank.

Demand shifts toward production expansion

According to 104 Job Bank, employer demand is shifting from production operations to supporting factory construction, equipment installation and improving yield. The platform links this to growing demand for manufacturing capacity driven by artificial intelligence.

The largest number of openings was offered in manufacturing, quality control and occupational hygiene, operations, technical and service work, as well as research and development. To expand capacity more effectively, companies need employees capable of transferring technologies between enterprises, spreading expertise and integrating systems.

Employers are also increasingly seeking interdisciplinary specialists with knowledge of electronics, optics and materials science. Accordingly, the importance of skills in cross-departmental technology integration, communication and cooperation is growing.

AI-related jobs account for a quarter of openings

The number of artificial intelligence-related job openings in the industry averaged more than 10,000 per month. This represented every fourth vacancy and was 67% higher than five years earlier. Weber Chung, a manager at 104 Job Bank, noted that the number of such openings has grown rapidly since last year, while the list of required skills has expanded from research and development to manufacturing, equipment, quality control and supply chain management.

Due to geopolitical risks, companies are expanding operations abroad. Asian markets, excluding China, Hong Kong and Macao, remain the main destinations for overseas vacancies. At the same time, the number of openings in the United States and Canada has increased significantly since last year, while in Europe it has risen somewhat. Semiconductor engineers, application engineers and occupational safety management specialists are most often sought for overseas assignments.
