In recent days, power outages have affected several areas of the city. This has caused traffic jams, as some traffic lights have stopped working.
Turin Mayor Stefano Lo Russo stated that the local power grid requires additional investment and technical upgrades.
The energy company Iren reported that further outages are possible due to the complex situation.
“Sporadic power outages are possible,” a company spokesperson said.
At the same time, Iren emphasized that city life has not been paralyzed.
The company, which serves about 650,000 customers in Turin, explained that this year’s heatwave arrived earlier than expected. High temperatures and longer daylight hours are placing additional thermal stress on power grid cables.
According to meteorologists’ forecasts, the air temperature in Turin could reach 32 degrees Celsius on May 28.
