Uganda is nearing the end of its Ebola outbreak: the last patient has been discharged from the hospital

In Uganda, the last patient being treated for Ebola has been discharged. There are currently no confirmed active cases of the disease in the country.

According to Health Minister Chris Barayomunsi, a 42-day observation period has now begun. If no new cases are detected during this time, the authorities will officially declare the outbreak over.

According to the minister, the successful containment of the disease was made possible by the rapid identification of infected individuals, timely treatment, and the effective functioning of the healthcare system.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health has urged residents to remain vigilant. Citizens are advised to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or unexplained bleeding.

During this outbreak in Uganda, 20 cases of Ebola infection have been confirmed, and two people have died. Most of the patients arrived from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the epidemic situation remains significantly more severe.

It was previously reported that the 17th Ebola outbreak was recorded in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which has already claimed the lives of 80 people. This time, the disease was likely caused by the little-studied Bundibugyo ebolavirus strain, rather than the more common Zaire ebolavirus.

Ethiopia has recorded its first outbreak of the Marburg virus, which is clinically similar to Ebola. The pathogen is capable of spreading rapidly, but there are no vaccines against it.
