Hungary will not supply weapons to Ukraine — Magyar
Hungary has no plans to change its policy and will not provide Ukraine with military support in the form of weapons or military personnel.
The country’s newly elected Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, made this statement during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The meeting between the two leaders took place on Tuesday, June 2, in Berlin.
The head of the Hungarian government emphasized that Budapest’s position remains unwavering, despite domestic political changes in the country.
According to him, the state’s key task at present is to fulfill existing commitments and implement specific domestic and international projects, rather than revising previous security agreements.
“In fact, now is not the time to change agreements. We first need to do real, concrete work. And I would like to state clearly once again that Hungary will not send either soldiers or weapons to Ukraine—even under the new Hungarian government,” Péter Magyar said.
Despite his categorical refusal to provide defense equipment and lethal weapons, the prime minister emphasized Hungary’s desire to integrate into pan-European processes.
He assured his German partners that Hungary seeks to maintain its status as a reliable member of the European community and will actively participate in addressing common challenges.
“We will be there when tasks need to be addressed—whether it’s new negotiations on the multiannual financial framework, negotiations on illegal migration, competition issues, or foreign policy matters,” he said.
