Hungary has asked the U.S. to grant it an exemption from Lindsey Graham's draconian sanctions
Hungary is seeking an exemption from potential U.S. tariffs targeting the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas. At the same time, officials in Budapest have promised to draw up a plan in the near future to overcome the country’s energy dependence on Russia.
Márton Hajdu, chair of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs and a representative of the Tisza Party, discussed with members of the Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives the risks associated with Senator Graham’s new bill. The Hungarian politician appealed to his American partners to support his country’s efforts to diversify its supply sources and to temporarily exempt it from the restrictions.
Márton Hajdu noted: “That is precisely why it was important for me to point out that ‘Tisa’ recognizes the dangers and shortcomings of energy dependence on Russia and will soon have a plan ready to address it.”
This is stated in the lawmaker’s Facebook post.
As a reminder, the U.S. House of Representatives approved Lindsey Graham’s bill on sanctions against Russia by a vote of 262 to 0. The bill provides for the imposition of sanctions and tariffs against Russia and its allies. According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. President Donald Trump plans to sign this bill into law.
