Hungary says it will stop exerting pressure within the EU – Bloomberg
The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the country no longer plans to use its veto power in the European Union as a means of political pressure. Budapest also emphasized its intention to rebuild trust with its EU and NATO partners.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
“Too often, Hungary has been an obstacle in the decision-making process at the European level. We used the veto not as a last resort, but for political PR,” she said
During her speech at parliamentary hearings on her confirmation, Orbán noted that Prime Minister Péter Magyar’s priority will be to restore access to European Union funding, which was suspended under the previous government due to concerns about the rule of law.
In addition, Orban noted that Hungary would support Ukraine’s closer integration into the EU solely on the basis of “purely national interests,” and added that the new government would continue the previous government’s policy aimed at securing additional rights for the ethnic Hungarian minority in Ukraine.
As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Hungary has returned to Ukraine the funds and assets of Oschadbank that were seized by Hungarian special services in March of this year.
Earlier, Hungary’s future Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that the issue of returning the frozen Ukrainian funds of Oschadbank would be the subject of negotiations only after the new government is officially formed.
