Ukraine has seized the strategic initiative thanks to its strikes against Russia, says Kayu
The Ukrainian military has achieved significant results in the war against Russia, in particular through strikes deep into Russian territory and the destruction of Russian air defense systems.
This was stated by Gert Kaju, head of Estonia’s Defense Readiness Department, during a weekly briefing at the country’s Ministry of Defense, as quoted by ERR.
According to Kaju, Ukraine has recently been able to “seize the strategic initiative” thanks to systematic strikes on Russian military targets.
He noted that April continued the trend of previous months regarding the destruction of Russian air defense systems at various levels.
“As a statistical example: while 21 Russian air defense systems were destroyed in January—and we’re talking about everything from the tactical level to strategic early-warning radars—25 systems were destroyed in February and 41 different systems in March. The current trend indicates that April will continue at the same pace,” he noted.
Kayu emphasized that the systematic, deep strikes carried out by Ukraine against Russian military targets are “significant” in terms of their impact on the situation at the front.
He also stressed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are effectively preventing Russia from amassing forces for major offensive operations.
“The result of this is that Russian forces have been unable to prepare effective offensive operations—they are attacked before they can assemble a sufficiently large contingent for an attack or offensive operations,” he added.
As a reminder, France believes that the European Union must independently formulate a strategic approach and respond to security challenges, regardless of changes in U.S. policy.
