Yemeni government says it has decided to retake Sanaa from Houthi control — Anadolu Agency
Yemen’s internationally recognized government said it has made a decision to retake the country’s capital, Sanaa, from the control of the Houthi group. Major General Samir al-Sabri, Yemen’s deputy defense minister, told Anadolu Agency.

According to al-Sabri, the decision to retake Sanaa has already been made. He also said that the authorities have “surprises” that they will not disclose yet.
Yemeni army spokesperson Majid al-Nuzaili said on social network X that the government forces’ goal is to liberate Yemen from the Houthis and restore Sanaa’s status as the capital for all Yemenis. He also said that all Yemenis are partners in the country’s future and that there should be no place for revenge, retribution, or discrimination against citizens.

Situation in Yemen
The Houthis seized Sanaa and significant territories of Yemen in 2014. Since April 2022, the country had maintained relative calm after nearly 12 years of war between government forces supported by a Saudi Arabia-led coalition and the Houthis, whom Anadolu Agency describes as backed by Iran.
After the start of Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip in late 2023, the Houthis intensified attacks on Israel and commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The recent resumption of hostilities has heightened concerns about Yemen’s return to a full-scale conflict.
