In Accra, 23 fire hydrants found to be faulty — MyJoyOnline
In Accra, the capital of Ghana, 23 faulty fire hydrants were discovered during an inspection of the government quarter. The inspection was conducted by the Greater Accra Regional Fire Command and Ghana Water Limited. This was reported by MyJoyOnline.
Inspection results
In total, specialists found about 30 hydrants in the area. Only five of them were fully operational and had high water pressure. Two more hydrants had low pressure, while the remaining 23 were not working.
The inspection also found that there was not a single fire hydrant on the premises of Ghana’s Controller and Accountant-General’s Department. Regional Fire Officer Rashid Nisawu advised the institution’s management to work with the fire service and Ghana Water Limited to install such equipment.

Which institutions were inspected
The inspection covered a number of state institutions in the ministries quarter, including the Office of Public Interests and Governance, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust, and the ministries of transport, roads and highways, energy, and finance. Facilities of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Health Service, National Lottery Authority, the judicial complex, and the Accra Sports Stadium were also inspected.
According to the fire service, the inspection is part of an initiative to identify, repair, and restore faulty hydrants ahead of the peak fire season.
