Amsterdam celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first same-sex marriages
The capital of the Netherlands marked the 25th anniversary of the world’s first same-sex marriages.
This was reported by the Associated Press.
To mark the anniversary, three same-sex couples were married at Amsterdam City Hall. The ceremony was officiated by Mayor Femke Halsema.
It was on April 1, 2001, that the Netherlands became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage.
Since then, more than 36,000 same-sex couples have officially married in the country.
The event was a landmark for the advancement of LGBTQ+ rights and influenced the passage of similar laws in dozens of countries around the world.
Prime Minister Rob Jetten stated that he is proud of this date and called it important for freedom and equality.
On January 16, a court in Norway found a 48-year-old man guilty of aiding in the organization of a deadly shooting at a gay bar during the 2022 Oslo Pride parade and sentenced him to 30 years in prison.
Additionally, Orbán calledthe LGBT Pride event in Budapest “proof” of the need for a conservative government.
