The President of Finland discussed NATO and Ukraine with Trump

Finnish President Alexander Stubb held a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump amid a serious crisis in relations between Washington and NATO.

As the Finnish leader reported on social media platform X, the main topics of discussion were the future of the Alliance, the situation in Ukraine, and the war against Iran. Stubb described the discussion as pragmatic, emphasizing that problems exist to be solved through dialogue and the exchange of ideas.

The conversation took place at a critical moment, when Trump openly stated that he was seriously considering the possibility of the U.S. withdrawing from NATO. Tensions have escalated due to the American leader’s demands that NATO allies join a military operation to unblock the Strait of Hormuz. Despite the White House’s radical rhetoric, Finland is attempting to act as a mediator in preserving transatlantic unity, emphasizing the importance of collective security in the face of global threats.

The issue of support for Ukraine also remains a focus in Helsinki, especially following incidents involving drones crashing on Finnish territory. Stubb is attempting to find common ground with Trump to ensure the stability of military aid to Kyiv and prevent isolationist moves by the U.S. International observers view this conversation as an attempt by European leaders to calm the situation ahead of Trump’s official evening address to the nation. Currently, Finland’s diplomatic efforts are aimed at preserving NATO as a cohesive defense structure despite internal disagreements.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is seriously considering the possibility of the United States withdrawing from NATO. According to him, this is because the Alliance did not join the U.S. operation against Iran.

The United Kingdom has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the country’s possible withdrawal from NATO. Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized his commitment to the Alliance and assured that he would not allow the country to be drawn into war.
