In England and Wales, millions of people have received warnings about the risk of wildfires
Millions of residents in England and Wales received emergency alerts on their phones due to the high risk of wildfires amid extreme heat. Authorities urged people not to light barbecues or bonfires, not to set off fireworks, and to avoid any actions that could cause a fire.
According to The Guardian World, around 7:00 p.m., phones emitted the siren sound of the emergency alert system. The alert warned of a serious risk of wildfires across the country. Deputy Prime Minister Louise Hay stated that this was the largest-scale use of the UK’s emergency alert system in response to an active incident.
People were also asked to immediately call 999 if they spot a fire. The Prime Minister stated that the UK is currently at extreme fire risk and is preparing for a challenging weekend.

The government has imposed a temporary nationwide ban on the sale of disposable barbecues, which took effect immediately. It will remain in place as long as the risk of wildfires remains high.
The military has been called in to assist the overwhelmed emergency services in South Wales. About 100 military personnel have already been deployed to distribute water, transport equipment and personnel, and provide logistical support; another 100 or so were expected to arrive on Friday evening.
This year, the number of wildfire-related incidents in England and Wales has already surpassed the 2025 total of 1,017 cases. In the past 24 hours, fire departments have reported 11 major incidents. In Stourbridge, in the West Midlands region, a series of fires destroyed homes and injured residents.
