In Australia, Ralph Carr described his situation as a "living hell" following his conviction

In the state of Victoria, Australia, a court is considering sentencing recommendations from both sides regarding music industry executive Ralph Carr, who was found guilty last month of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Carr pleaded not guilty to the crimes against a former employee, which were committed in March 2023.

According to The Guardian, during the hearing, Carr’s attorney, Dermot Dunn, stated that his client described his time in custody as “a living hell” and considers his career ruined due to the extensive media coverage of the case. According to the defense attorney, a report by psychiatrist Jacqueline Rakov dated August 14—compiled after three video calls with Carr at Melbourne Assessment Prison—indicates that he spends 23 hours a day in solitary confinement.

Dunn also said that Carr told the psychiatrist about self-harm: while in custody, he deliberately banged his head. According to the attorney, Carr experiences three to four panic attacks daily, barely sleeps, and hardly eats. He also mentioned two recommendations to transfer him to a hospital due to his blood pressure, which exceeded 200.

The attorney stated that Rakov is concerned about the potential risk of suicide if the court does not grant Carr’s motion to suspend his sentence. The defense asks the court to take into account his lack of prior convictions, his previous positive character references, his employment history, his role in the family, and the consequences of his incarceration for him and others.

Dunn acknowledged that Carr is not eligible for a reduced sentence based on remorse or a guilty plea, as he continues to deny his guilt. The prosecution has not yet presented its arguments regarding sentencing. Judge Frank Guccardo said he expects to rule on the motion and impose a sentence next week; the hearing will resume on Tuesday.

Carr represented Australian pop singers Vanessa Amorosi, Kate Seberano, and Tina Arena, and also managed a small number of Australian Football League players. Following the verdict, former Richmond midfielder Dustin Martin stated that he had immediately severed all ties with Carr.
