Finland has announced the timeline for Ukraine's accession to the drone coalition

Finland plans to join the international drone coalition in support of Ukraine as early as this spring. By the end of the season, the country will officially become a member of the coalition, which is coordinated by Latvia and the United Kingdom.

This was announced by Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hykkänen in an interview with Uutissuomalainen.

According to the minister, the decision to join the initiative was not made quickly—it was considered over the course of two years.

“This issue was discussed last year and this year. Now I can announce that Finland will join the drone coalition this spring,” said Hykkänen.

In addition to membership itself, the Finnish government is also discussing the allocation of additional resources to support Ukraine in the field of unmanned systems.

“Thanks to this, we will be able to significantly expand the European Union’s support for Ukraine and these operational activities,” the defense minister emphasized.

The Drone Coalition brings together more than 20 of Ukraine’s partner countries, which jointly finance the procurement and delivery of drones to the Defense Forces. The initiative was launched in February 2024 during a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense in the “Ramstein” format. The United Kingdom and Latvia coordinate the group’s work.

As a reminder, Finland is exploring options for joining a multinational mission to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Finland plans to deploy reservists for patrols due to drone incidents near the border with Russia. Military officials say that during attacks on Russian targets, drones sometimes fly into Finnish airspace.
