In India, Shia leader calls for stronger ties with Iran
In India, Maulana Yasoob Abbas, secretary-general of the All India Shia Personal Law Board, called for strengthening the country’s relations with Iran during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in New Delhi. The meeting took place on September 11 ahead of the 18th BRICS summit.
Letter to the Iranian president
Abbas, who lives in Lucknow, said that he handed Pezeshkian a letter. According to him, he emphasized in it the need to strengthen the historical ties between India and Iran and also condemned attacks on Iran.

The religious figure noted that India and Iran have centuries-old cultural, intellectual, spiritual and trade ties. Abbas spoke about the meeting to The Hindu International.
Areas of cooperation
According to Abbas, it is important to expand Indian-Iranian cooperation in education, trade, culture, science, technology, transport connectivity and energy for regional and global progress and prosperity. He called for further developing interaction between the two countries in these areas.
