Seoul hosts its first officially recognized Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest Seoul 2026 has begun at Oil Tank Culture Park in Seoul’s Mapo district, South Korea. The event will run for 10 days, through September 21. It is the first festival in the country that the city of Munich has officially authorized to use the Oktoberfest name, Korea Herald reports.
German beer and cuisine
Visitors are offered 10 German beer brands and traditional dishes, including Schweinshaxe, sausages, schnitzel and pretzels. Korean fried chicken and locally produced craft beer are also available at the festival.
The event venue has been divided into the paid Big Tent and a free open beer garden. Live performances take place in the tent, and the program is held in two sessions each day. The beer garden can be entered without a ticket, with food and drinks available for separate purchase.

Queues during the first weekend
Paid seats for the festival’s first weekend sold out. Queues formed at food and drink sales points. Organizers said that a larger-than-expected number of guests caused delays, while some menu items sold out quickly.
During the opening ceremony, an oak beer barrel was traditionally tapped, and a German brass band also performed. Guests could rent traditional German clothing free of charge, but all 40 prepared sets were quickly taken.
