Ghana crowns new Nifahene of Ngleshie-Alata
An official installation and coronation ceremony for the new Nifahene of Ngleshie-Alata, Daasebre Nii Ardey Agyemang, was held in Jamestown, Ghana. The Paramount Chief of the Ngleshie-Alata Stool, Obrempong Dr. Wetse Kojo II, urged chiefs and other traditional leaders not to abuse traditional authority and to be agents of peace rather than conflict, MyJoyOnline reports.
A call for integrity
The ceremony took place on September 9. Obrempong Dr. Wetse Kojo II stressed that traditional leadership should not be a means of personal enrichment or personal vendettas, but an institution of service and self-sacrifice.
Addressing the new Nifahene, the Paramount Chief urged him to adhere to the principles of integrity and strengthen unity throughout his tenure. He also advised him to protect the interests of the people, counter division, injustice and corruption, prevent the abuse of traditional authority, and promote the development of education.

Development of Ngleshie-Alata
According to Obrempong Dr. Wetse Kojo II, in the event of disputes, traditional leaders should first seek reconciliation rather than confrontation. He noted that the strength of traditional authority is measured not by the number of people who fear it, but by the number of those who trust it.
For his part, Daasebre Nii Ardey Agyemang said he was ready to cooperate with all stakeholders for the development of Ngleshie-Alata. He seeks to turn Ngleshie-Alata, also known as Jamestown, into a tourist hub.
