Nauru opens embassy in Jerusalem, Israel
The Republic of Nauru officially opened an embassy in Jerusalem, Israel, during a visit by a delegation led by Vice President and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Justice Lionel Rouwen Aingimea. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar took part in the ceremony.
This was reported in an opinion column by the Jerusalem Post. The Nauruan delegation included ministers and members of parliament. Also attending the event were Israeli Foreign Ministry Chief of Protocol Gil Haskel, Deputy Director General for Asia and the Pacific Aviv Ezra, as well as honorary consuls of both states.

Relations between Nauru and Israel
Nauru is an island state in the Pacific Ocean that gained independence in 1968. In 2019, the country recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The column’s author notes that Nauru has repeatedly supported Israel in votes within UN bodies and has also expressed support for Israel in proceedings at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
Agreement on the diplomatic mission
According to the publication, the agreement to open the embassy was reached during a meeting between Gideon Sa’ar and Lionel Aingimea in Fiji. The decision was subsequently approved by the Nauruan government. The Nauruan delegation was also received by Israeli President Isaac Herzog at his official residence.
