In Indonesia, the passenger vessel Virgo Transport 8, with 243 people aboard, is considered missing after contact was lost on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The vessel was traveling from Surabaya, in East Java province, to Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan.

Search for the vessel

Indonesia's search and rescue agency said it had sent personnel to the approximate location of the vessel's last known position after receiving information about the loss of contact.

The KN SAR Laksmana 241 search and rescue vessel was also deployed for the search, said Putu Sudayana, head of the Banjarmasin search and rescue office.

Rescuers' statement

According to Sudayana, the service immediately deployed forces after receiving a report about the loss of communication with Virgo Transport 8. The agency's statement provided no other details about the circumstances of the vessel's disappearance.
