An 18-year-old participant in anti-government protests was executed in Iran

In Iran, 18-year-old Amir Hossein Khatami, who had participated in mass anti-government demonstrations, was executed by hanging.

According to newsru.co.il, citing Radio Hambastegi, the young man was transferred from a general cell to a death row cell on the eve of his execution. Official Tehran accused Khatami of participating in a terrorist group that allegedly set fire to a secret military facility in the capital.

Human rights activists note that the trial was marred by numerous violations, and the confession may have been obtained under duress. The execution took place on April 2, 2026, amid ongoing political tensions and a series of airstrikes on the country’s industrial infrastructure. The international community has repeatedly called on Iranian authorities to stop using the death penalty against protesters, yet the regime continues to harshly suppress opposition sentiment.

This case has become yet another example of human rights violations in Iran, causing concern among world leaders. Previously, similar repressive measures were discussed in the context of sanctions pressure on Russia’s allies in the region. Currently, official representatives in Tehran have not provided additional comments regarding the execution, despite protests from international legal organizations. The human rights situation in the country remains critical amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

In Iran, 19-year-old wrestling champion Saleh Mohammadi was publicly executed.

Additionally, on Wednesday, March 18, Iranian authorities carried out the death sentence against Kurosh Keivani, who was accused of espionage.
