Iran's largest steel mills have halted operations due to airstrikes

Iran’s leading steel mills have completely halted production following massive Israeli airstrikes earlier this week. The facilities sustained critical damage that makes further operation of the plants impossible.

This was reported by the Financial Times, citing confirmation from the country’s largest steel mills—Mobarakeh Steel and Khuzestan Steel.

The Mobarakeh Steel complex in Isfahan has urged employees not to visit the facility until further notice due to severe damage to infrastructure. In the southwest of the country, the Khuzestan Steel plant, which also halted operations following the bombings, estimates that it will take between six months and one year to fully resume production. Experts note that the shutdown of these industry giants will significantly impact the domestic steel market and Tehran’s export capabilities.

The situation at Iranian industrial facilities remains challenging amid the escalation in the Middle East. Previously, similar disruptions at major enterprises were observed in Russia due to attacks on energy and oil infrastructure. Currently, Iranian authorities are assessing the total damage inflicted on the metallurgical sector and seeking ways to stabilize the economy amid hostilities. The issue of industrial zone security remains a priority for regional players.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had received a request from the new leader of the Iranian regime asking for a ceasefire. Trump is willing to consider such a possibility only on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz is fully opened for the free and safe passage of ships.

As a reminder, the IRGC announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and is threatening a “harsh response” to ships.

The Strait of Hormuz could also become the “Trump Strait.”
